Pillar headJames’s research focuses on the governance of marginalised populations, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of formal bureaucracies and non-governmental agencies. He has conducted research projects in Canada and Iceland. James has published articles in Ethnology, Laws, Disability & Society and the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities. Recent book chapters include publications in the edited volumes Intellectual disability and stigma (2016 Palgrave Macmillan), Disability research today (2015 Routledge), Gambling debt: Iceland’s struggle with the New World Order (2015 University of Colorado Press) and Crisis in the Nordic nations and beyond (2014 Ashgate). He received his PhD in 2007 from Memorial University of Newfoundland and is currently an assistant professor in anthropology in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, University of Iceland.
